DiXiT time flew by in a blink of an eye.

In Maynooth, on the 5th February 2016 my DiXiT fellowship ended and the 7th, a Monday I started my new job as librarian in the Economics library of Ca’ Foscari. I officially said “Goodbye” to Maynooth University for coming back Italy, coming home and starting my new job. I went away with a huge baggage of new experiences, new competences, new connections.

Because a series of technical and organizational hitches the great official launch of Letters of 1916 was postponed in March 2016, so I missed the joy and satisfaction of the team in person, but I followed the excitement via social media! The realization of the new Letters of 1916 portal was literally a team effort. Especially regarding the processing and quality of TEI documents I worked writing tons of Python with fellow Dixiteer, Richard Hadden, who spent three years and an entire thesis on the topic of Digital scholarly editing and mass digitisation. For an experienced fellow like me, who threw myself into a foreign and completely new context, my twelve DiXiT months flew by in a blink of an eye.

The international network offered by DiXiT Project has been a fast full-immersion in a European context where the discussions about Digital Humanities, Digital Scholarly Editions, Sustainability and Dissemination of research seemed concrete issues and matters to put on the table of Academia. Especially nowadays when the new Horizon 2020 guidelines [see PDF] require a serious and concrete data plan management for projects, the time spent in studying and discussing digital standards, preservation and sustainability of digital scholarly editions have even more relevance.

During the amazing DiXiT months I acquired not only brand-new and geeky technical competencies thanks to DiXit companions and programs but above all I discovered an unsuspected skill to expose myself and to never give up. Remember guys: “When you learn that about you, the next time you will write a CV, your attitude would be very different, and so your success,” cool aunt L. dixit.

The work-station for digitalization in Economics Library, Ca’ Foscari Venice: nb the Europe is literally on the top of our projects!

Currently, after almost two years, I am working in Venice, at the University Library Service as librarian (Economics Library) but my main activity is devoted to digitization projects; I also participate to discussion group on European Open Science Cloud and I am the Ca’ Foscari contact person for the OPERAS project:  definitely, in order to obtain that position, the DiXiT experience was decisive. In my spare time I continue to support my old team Musisque Deoque that is engaged in an international upgrade project: TESSERAE MUSIVAE: A Common Infrastructure for Digital Approaches to Classical Intertextuality ( Mellon Foundation/Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme).
